Former NFL offensive lineman turned orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Mark Adickes, is the host of a new television series focusing on in-depth interviews with former and current elite athletes chronicling their personal stories of sports injuries, treatment, and rehabilitation.

"Jock to Doc" Dr. Mark Adickes

Dr. Mark Adickes was a good fit to host the show because he has personal experience as an elite athlete playing football for the NFL for seven seasons. He personally experienced eleven surgeries over the course of his career. His personal experiences competing at the professional level can bring a unique perspective to the show.

Along with his personal experience as a professional athlete, Dr. Adickes can bridge the gap and bring a sports medicine perspective because he is now a practicing orthopedic surgeon and is also the team physician for the United States Ski Team and for the Houston Rockets.

He not only was a professional athlete, he also works with professional athletes as an orthopedic surgeon. Together, his experiences provide a unique perspective giving him the ability to understand the depths of what an elite athlete will endure to compete.

Often times, both the sports and news media show athletes suffering catastrophic injuries while competing. The media covers the stories for a few days and then the story and the athlete disappears. If fortunate, perhaps months later, the athlete reappears on the scene. Nobody knows what it took for the athlete to be able to return to sports at the elite level.

This show interviews former and current elite athletes (some are patients of Dr. Adickes). Each show goes in-depth into the journey of the athlete chronicling his/her sports history, injuries, surgical repair (if applicable), overview of rehabilitation plan, and in some cases, return to sport.
